BioMonitor
Our LAR™ BioMonitor™ is an online water analyzer designed for continuous monitoring of organic and inorganic compounds (BOD – Biochemical Oxygen Demand) in water. It uses UV-VIS spectrophotometry and electrochemical sensors to measure various parameters in real-time, such as biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen bound (TNb, and total phosphorus (TP).
The BioMonitor online water analyzer is commonly used in wastewater treatment plants, industrial process monitoring, and environmental monitoring. It can provide real-time data to operators, enabling them to optimize treatment processes and make informed decisions about plant operations.
It comes equipped with multiple sensors, including a UV-VIS spectrophotometer and a range of electrochemical sensors. The UV-VIS spectrophotometer measures absorbance at multiple wavelengths, allowing for the determination of various parameters, including TOC, BOD, and COD. The electrochemical sensors are used to measure TN, TP, pH, conductivity, and temperature.
The BioMonitor online water analyzer can be used in conjunction with an automated sampler to collect water samples and perform measurements automatically. The analyzer can be set up to send alerts and alarms to operators when certain parameters exceed predetermined levels, allowing for timely corrective actions.
In contrast to the standard BOD5 method, our BioMonitor online water analyzer measures the total BOD. In the BOD5 measurement nitrification inhibitors are added to the sample, which suppress the degradation of nitrogen compounds. This results in the determination of the degradation of carbon compounds (carbonaceous-BOD) only and the nitrification part is not considered in BOD5 measurements.
The BioMonitor online water analyzer provides continuous real-time monitoring of various parameters in water, which allows for timely detection of changes in water quality. This enables operators to quickly identify and address issues before they become significant problems. It can monitor multiple parameters simultaneously, including BOD, COD, TOC, TNb, and TP. This saves time and resources compared to performing separate tests for each parameter.
Using advanced technology, including UV-VIS spectrophotometry and electrochemical sensors, it can measure parameters with high accuracy and precision. The analyzer can be fully automated with an automated sampler, reducing the need for manual intervention and improving accuracy.
The BioMonitor online water analyzer can help industries comply with regulations related to water quality monitoring, such as those set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or local authorities. And it is a cost-effective solution for monitoring water quality, as it eliminates the need for frequent laboratory testing and reduces the risk of downtime or damage due to water quality issues.

The BioMonitor measures total BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) using a UV-VIS spectrophotometer. BOD is a measure of the amount of oxygen consumed by microorganisms as they decompose organic matter in water. The higher the BOD, the greater the amount of organic matter present in the water.
To measure BOD using the BioMonitor, water samples are collected and mixed with a nutrient solution that provides the microorganisms with the necessary nutrients for growth. The samples are then incubated for a specific amount of time, typically five days, during which the microorganisms consume the organic matter and release carbon dioxide.
After the incubation period, the carbon dioxide produced by the microorganisms is measured using the UV-VIS spectrophotometer. The spectrophotometer uses light to measure the absorbance of the carbon dioxide, which is directly proportional to the amount of BOD in the water sample.
The BioMonitor can perform this process automatically, using an integrated auto-sampler to collect and mix the water samples, and an incubator to maintain the samples at the appropriate temperature during the incubation period. The analyzer can then measure the BOD in real-time, providing continuous monitoring of water quality.
