TN Online Water Analyzer

Continuous TN ANALYZER FOR WASTEWATER & PROCESS CONTROL

For the accurate monitoring of Total Nitrogen Bound in water

Our LAR™ QuickTONultra™ water analyzer is the ultimate online TNb analyzer for the determination of total nitrogen bound (TNb) in wastewater and process water applications.  The modular system offers flexibility.  With the right method, organic and inorganic nitrogen compounds can be quickly measured without problems even in difficult waters with coarse material content.  The catalyst-free ceramic oven is the centerpiece of the QuickTONultra. At 1,200°C, it reliably dissolves all nitrogen bonds and, thus, enables a complete analysis of samples. Despite the high temperatures used, absolute safety is guaranteed in all locations.

The QuickTONultra total nitrogen bound (TNb) water analyzer can be delivered with a number of different housings, depending on the intended location. That way the analyzer itself can be used safely at high corrosive places as well as in ex-zones. The determination is in accordance with EN 12260:2003, ISO/ TR 11905-2:1997.

Our QuickTONultra total nitrogen bound (TNb) water analyzer can handle salt concentrations up to 10 g/l. There is also an extra high salt option available that can handle up to 300 g/l sodium chloride (NaCl). This means that even with a high salt concentration the sample does not need to be diluted.  With a 10.4-inch touch screen, the QuickTONultra is easy to operate. Another option is to control the analyzer via remote control using a PC, which is connected to your network. QuickTONultra continually monitors the TNb content of water. Optionally, further sum parameters can be detected, too. At 1,200°C, samples are completely oxidized and only within 3 minutes the TNb result is determined.

This water analytical system consists of high temperature oxidation with a working temperature of 1200°C for determination of the total nitrogen content, flow-through sample vessel with magnetic stirrer, vessel for calibration solution, sample transfer and injection module with septum-less injection port, acid filter and carrier gas cooler.  The analyzer can easily be configured to also measure Total Oxygen Demand (TOD) and/or Total Organic Carbon (TOC).

The chemiluminescence technique involves the reaction of nitric oxide (NO) and ozone (O3) to produce excited-state nitrogen dioxide (NO2*), which then emits light when it returns to its ground state. This reaction occurs in a reaction chamber within the TNb module, where a small sample of water is mixed with a reagent solution to convert all forms of nitrogen in the sample into nitric oxide.

The nitric oxide is then mixed with ozone in the reaction chamber, resulting in the emission of light. The intensity of the light emitted is directly proportional to the concentration of TNb in the water sample.

The TNb module also includes a denitrification step, which converts nitrates and nitrites present in the sample into nitric oxide before entering the reaction chamber. This step ensures that all forms of nitrogen in the water sample are converted into nitric oxide and measured accurately by the chemiluminescence reaction.

INDUSTRIES

Our QuickTONultra total nitrogen bound (TNb) water analyzer is a device commonly used in various industries to measure the quality of water like:

  • Municipal Water Treatment Plants: Used to monitor the quality of drinking water in municipal water treatment plants.
  • Industrial Water Treatment: Industries such as power plants, chemical manufacturing, and oil refineries use large quantities of water in their processes.
  • Food and Beverage Production: Used to monitor the quality of water used in food and beverage production, ensuring that the water is safe for human consumption and that it meets industry standards.
  • Aquaculture: Used in aquaculture to monitor the quality of water in fish farms and other aquatic environments.
  • Swimming Pools and Spas: Used to monitor the quality of water in swimming pools and spas, ensuring that the water is safe for human use and meets industry standards.

HIGH SALT CONCENTRATIONS ARE NO PROBLEM for our analyzers

Our online TNb analyzer can handle salt concentrations up to even 300 g/l sodium chloride (NaCl). Salts that melt at the temperature of 1,200°C are vaporized by the combustion power and carried out with the carrier gas to settle in a special retrieving device.

      ULTRA-QUICK MEASUREMENTS

The QuickTONultra is designed to operate in a batch mode. The TNb measurement takes place in within 1 – 2 minutes. This speed guarantees that very short peaks can be determined very well during a daily cycle. The analyzer’s availability is over 98%. The weekly service is about 30 minutes.

      Measurment Above the standard: 1,200°C

The current European standard EN 12260:2003 describes the chemical conversion of nitrogen compounds to nitrogen monoxide by use of the catalytic combustion above 700°C in an oxygen atmosphere. However, not all nitrogen substances can be oxidized by this method. Especially, not those substances that contain nitrogen double or triple bonds. Our high temperature method goes further: With a combustion temperature of 1,200°C.  We offer the highest oxidation temperature on the market and reliably oxidizes more complex compounds. As a general rule, the higher the temperature, the higher the accuracy of results.

Catalysts Are Not Needed with Our Analyzers

Because of the high combustion temperatures our analyzers do not need any catalysts. Catalysts are only necessary for the low temperature catalytic oxidation (680 – 1,100°C) to support the oxidization of the nitrogen bonds. However, the performance of the catalysts is fading over time. This affects the measurement results, requiring continuously new calibrations and, eventually, the replacement of the catalyst. Due to the ultra-high combustion temperature, the QuickTONultra usually goes without any catalysts. The catalyst-free ceramic oven is the centerpiece of the QuickTONultra. At 1,200°C, it reliably dissolves all nitrogen bonds and, thus, enables a complete analysis of samples. Despite the high temperatures used, absolute safety is guaranteed in all locations.
