Long Life Oxygen Sensors

Long Life Oxygen Sensor Technology

High Performance Trace & Percent Oxygen Sensor Technology

Trace and percent oxygen sensor technologies are types of sensors that measure the concentration of oxygen in a gas mixture. Trace oxygen sensors are designed to measure very low concentrations of oxygen, typically in the parts per million (ppm) or even parts per billion (ppb) range. Percent oxygen sensors, on the other hand, are used to measure higher concentrations of oxygen, typically in the range of 0-100%.

Electrochemical sensors are a type of sensor that uses an electrochemical reaction to measure the concentration of a particular gas in a mixture. The sensor consists of two electrodes separated by an electrolyte. When the gas comes into contact with one of the electrodes, a chemical reaction takes place, generating a voltage that is proportional to the concentration of the gas. This voltage is then measured and converted into a gas concentration reading.

Our ALPHA OMEGA INSTRUMENTS™ Safety Monitors and Trace and Percent Oxygen Transmitters feature a long-life ambient temperature electrochemical sensor that has a functional life of up to three times that of most “fuel cell” type sensors. The enhanced mechanical design of the sensor ensures longer life, and virtually eliminates leakage of caustic electrolyte, a nagging (and expensive) problem associated with sensors that require periodic electrolyte maintenance. And, because the sensor is sealed, it is not position sensitive. In addition, unlike some electrochemical sensors, our readings do not require manual adjustment based on changes in the molecular weights of the sample gas i.e. helium, hydrogen, etc.  This is a major advantage for continuous measuring applications. The output from the sensor is both linear and temperature compensated to provide optimum performance.

Oxygen Deficiency Monitors – Enhanced Electrolyte System

Our Oxygen Deficiency Monitors can be equipped with a local oxygen sensor and/or up to two remote sensors. The sensors featured in the Series 1300 are extended life electrochemical oxygen sensors designed with a proprietary Enhanced Electrolyte System (EES™) that extends the life expectancy of the sensor to years instead of approximately 12 months typical of most “fuel cell type” sensors. The oxygen sensors are designed with open diffusers eliminating the need to use sample pumps. The sensors are backed with a full three (3) year warranty. Users can expect sensor life well beyond years, helping to ensure reliable and trouble-free performance.
