High-Performance Fixed Magnetic Sector Mass Spectrometry

Fixed Magnetic Sector Mass Spectrometers

Ideal for Fermentation Control

Optimize Gas Analysis with our Fixed Magnetic Sector Spectrometers

Our real-time MGA™ fixed magnetic sector spectrometers are engineered to meet and exceed gas analysis needs across a wide range of industries including life sciences, iron and steel, ammonia production, ethylene oxide, and ethylene cracking. Designed for precision and speed, these advanced mass spectrometer gas analyzers offer a broad dynamic range, from high parts per million (ppm) up to 100%, for accurate, speciated gas composition in real time.

Thanks to a fixed magnet design, the MGA™ delivers fast, accurate, and stable analysis of up to 16 gas components in less than one second. For added flexibility, the optional multi-stream sampler supports up to 100 streams with rapid purging and selection. Combined with parallel spectrum processing, this setup enables complete stream analysis every 3 to 10 seconds, making it one of the fastest process gas analyzers available today.

In fermentation processes, the MGA 1200CS plays a critical role in bioreactor off-gas analysis. It offers real-time data for OUR/CER/RQ calculations, enabling immediate process adjustments and eliminating the delay of lab sample testing. This helps maximize product yields, ensure complete clean-in-place (CIP) verification, and maintain strict quality standards. Its low drift performance ensures long-term stability, enhancing the accuracy of every measurement.

Moreover, our fixed magnetic mass spectrometer is ideal for R&D and small-scale fermentation, now featuring a low-flow capability that supports bioreactors as small as 250 mL. This is especially valuable in pharmaceutical fermentation, industrial biotech, and mammalian cell culture applications. In particular, it provides high-precision oxygen analysis even at sparge gas flow rates as low as 20 cc/min—critical for sensitive cell culture environments.

Our Fixed Magnetic Sector Mass Spectrometer MGA 1200CSis an advanced instrument used in the food and beverage industry to analyze the composition of various samples, including fermented products, brewing, and culture cells. Here are some ways in which the instrument is used in the industry:

  • Fermentation monitoring: Used to analyze the volatile compounds produced by the microorganisms. This helps the industry to understand the fermentation process and optimize it to produce the desired products. For example, in the production of beer, the instrument can be used to monitor the concentration of different types of alcohols, esters, and acids that contribute to the flavor profile of the final product.
  • Quality control: Used in the food and beverage industry to analyze the composition of raw materials, intermediates, and final products. This helps to ensure that the products meet the required standards and are of consistent quality. For example, in the production of wine, the instrument can be used to analyze the concentration of different types of phenolic compounds, which contribute to the color and taste of the wine.
  • Research and development: The instrument is also used in the food and beverage industry for research and development purposes. By analyzing the composition of various samples, researchers can understand the complex chemistry involved in the production of food and beverage products. This information can be used to develop new products or improve existing ones.
