Components, Power Supplies & Software
For Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer & Systems
When you need components or software
We offer a variety of different controller and electronic packages as standalone Quadrupole Power Supplies (QPS) or with use of the powerful Merlin Automation Data System Software. Both have the flexibility to change and grow with the customer’s requirements.
The EXTREL™ QPS™ Power Supply provides all of the RF and DC power supplies and cabling required to operate our Quadrupole Mass Filters, Hexapole Collision Cells and Ion Guides and Octupole Ion Guides. Scanning and mass position are commanded by a stable 0–10-volt user-supplied inputs or by a Merlin Scan Controller. The QPS Power Supply system also gives a pole bias voltage to adjust the centerline potential of the quadrupole. The QPS Power Supply for RF/DC and RF is the only power supply for Quadrupoles, Hexapoles and Octupoles.
The MAX-CS Controller is a full quadrupole mass spectrometer control system that comes complete with software and control modules for quadrupole operation, the power supplies required to power filaments, ion optics and an electron multiplier detector, and a choice of either an analog or pulse-counting preamplifier.
The modular design allows the user to add the power supplies, control modules, and specialized software modules that best suits the application. The EXTREL 221 Scan Controller is similar to the MAX-CS Controller, but without the Control and Power Modules. It is a scan-and-resolution controller that can be upgraded to control other mass spectrometer components.
CHOOSING AN RF POWER SUPPLY THAT IS BEST SUITED FOR YOUR APPLICATION
Mass range, sensitivity, abundance sensitivity, resolution and transmission are determined by the combination of quadrupole rod size and the RF operating frequency.
INCREASING THE RF OPERATING FREQUENCY INCREASES
- Sensitivity
- Abundance Sensitivity
- Resolution
- High Energy Ion Transmission
INCREASING THE QUADRUPLE ROD SIZE INCREASES
- Ion Transmission
DECREASING EITHER THE QUADRUPOLE ROD SIZE OR THE RF OPERATING FREQUENCY INCREASES
- Mass Range
EASY STAND-ALONE OPERATION
The QPS Power Supply requires four DC input voltages, in addition to the AC voltage, one +/- 10 V for Mass Command and three +/- 5 V for Resolution (Delta M and Delta R) and Pole Bias. Mass Command requires one 0-10 V input. These voltages can be supplied by the user or from an MAX-CS control system. The QPS Power Supply also supplies a bipolar Pole Bias voltage up to 200V. The QPS comes with 1.5 meters (5 feet) RF cables and 3 meters (10 feet) power cables. Longer or shorter cables are available but changing the length will change the ultimate performance and achievable mass range of the system. Our standard QPS Power Supply can be loaded onto any quadrupole device with a 25-35 picoFarad capacitance.
